This post should be used to match roommates. Go ahead and list requests for roommates in the comments section. Please do be mindful, however, that this is an open forum and you should not post information that is too personal (i.e. addresses or telephone numbers) and be sure to meet each other the first time in a public place.
Hi all! I am Andy, a 5th-year anthropology PhD student returning from fieldwork in China. I am looking for a room in a two- or three-bedroom apartment to start in mid-January 2025. My budget is around $1,500. I will be teaching at City College, so Hamilton Heights and Manhattanville are my target neighborhoods. But anything to the north along Subway Line 1 would also work (Previously I lived in Washington Heights for two years).
I have two nonnegotiable requirements for the place due to my recovering sports-related injuries: that the building (1) has an elevator and accessibility designs and (2) is close enough to a subway station. Besides that, I would appreciate it if the room is furnished and has a desk for working from home. I prefer a private bathroom but am okay with sharing one.
I am a clean, tidy, considerate, respectful, and sociable person. I am a good tenant who has never paid rents late. Besides teaching and classes, I spend most of my time at home sleeping/napping/chilling out/working. I never party at home and would have a couple of friends over only once in a while. In a roommate, I am looking for someone who has similar traits and lifestyles. Due to injuries in my right knee and right shoulder, I still cannot walk too much or carry heavy stuff. But I’m more than happy to share house chores with you and would appreciate your consideration when we divide up the tasks. I am okay with roommates of all genders, as long as you are LGBTQ-friendly. Sadly, I am allergic to pets.
Feel free to email me at ztan@gradcenter.cuny.edu if you have a vacant room in your apartment or if you would like to house hunt together!
Hello! I’m looking for a room in Queens, or roommates to search with, ideally to move between now and September 1st. I’m a 4th-year student in the Music Theory PhD program with a new teaching assignment at Queens College, so I’d like to live off the 7, E, F, M, or R trains. My budget is $900-1200, and I’d be happy to live in a 2-, 3-, or 4-bedroom. I’m allergic to cats, sadly.
I’ve lived in NYC since 2018. Keeping things clean is important to me, especially in the kitchen. I like to be friends with my roommates, but I also spend a lot of time out: when I’m not studying or teaching, I’m often at choir rehearsals. When I’m home, I like to cook, crochet, do yoga, and sometimes have friends over.
If you’re open to starting a new lease and interested in a 3-bedroom, I’m connected with an incoming PhD student with a similar budget who might like to sign on together. That’s just one possibility.
Please email me at abeliveau@gradcenter.cuny.edu if you’d like to talk!
Hey all,
I’m Shayan(he/him) and I’m 28. I’m a 4th year PhD student at the GC studying Computer Science. I have two rooms in my 3bed/2bath apartment in crown heights available for Sept 1st move in. One of the rooms has a private bathroom and the rent is around 1150-1200 and the other shares the bathroom with me and the rents is around 1000-1050. The apartment is close to Kingston avenue stop on the 3 subway line, and it goes directly to midtown in about 30-35 minutes. There are plenty of grocery stores and cafes nearby. There’s also the bowery park 5 minute walk away. The apartment comes furnished except for the rooms. I’m looking for clean and respectful roommates. Send me an email with a little information about yourself to discuss further. Here is my email: mmshokrii1996@gmail.com
My roommate is moving out Oct 31 and I’m looking for someone to take her bedroom in my 2 br Rego Park, $1400 all utilities included and can be furnished. Room holds a queen sized bed, dresser, and desk, and has double window and a closet. I work and study, so I prefer someone respectful, quiet most weekdays, and fairly clean. I do dishes nightly and fully clean every weekend. About 40 minutes from Hunter or Queens college. Email me for more details. Would love to befriend one another before the room is open to see if we get along. Thanks!
Hi everyone
My name is Daria, and I’m an international student from Russia. I will be moving to NYC this August (most likely the 20th) to begin a PhD in Sociology at CUNY. I’m currently looking for housing and roommates to house hunt together with. I’m also open to joining any group of female students who need a last roommate.
My budget is somewhere between $1200 and $1600 per month. I’m open to any area in NYC as long as the commuting distance to GC is around 30-40 minutes by subway. I’m looking for a long-term lease of 6 months or more.
If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please email me darialukyanova@outlook.com or reach me on Instagram @dasha_look ✌️
Hello all–I tried to edit my post, but it doesn’t appear to be possible. That said, I still have a room available. Please refer to my previous post.
Hi! I’m Ben (he/him/his). I’m 23 and I’ll be starting the MA program in Liberal Studies (Approaches to Modernity) this fall. My roommate and I are currently looking for someone to fill the third room in our 3 bedroom Apartment in Ridgewood. Ideal move in date would be sometime before July 15th. The apt is close to both the Halsey St L station and the Seneca Av M station. Rent would be a little under $1,100 before utilities. Happy to provide pics/more details about the place!
In terms of lifestyle, both of us will be working, studying, or both so we’ll definitely have the need for some quiet time and we prefer to keep the space relatively clean. That being said, we’re absolutely down for the occasional house party and are pretty chill about having guests over. Above all looking for a group that’s there for each other as roommates and can accommodate each other as needed. Down to discuss plans for things like group budgeting, splitting costs for groceries, etc.
Love to play/listen to music (many genres) and read (primarily history and fiction) and have collections of records and books that I’m eager to share
If you’re interested feel free to email me at my Grad Center email (bbrumley@gradcenter.cuny.edu)
Hi! My name is Alex Salem and I’m starting a PhD at the CUNY graduate center this fall. I’m looking for either a room opening or roommates to look for housing with. I’m looking for places open around August 1st (flexible). I’m moving to the city from Portland, OR, where I’ve been for ~12 years.
I’m 29 and I have a cat named Chester. I definitely prioritize keeping common areas clean and respecting the space. I work a lot (often from home) and for fun I like exploring different neighborhoods, going to movies, cooking, playing pool, and dancing (to name a few things).
Please email at alexandrasalem8@gmail.com if you are interested in chatting more! 🙂
Hello! My name is Hang and I am looking for a female-identifying roommate who is interested in renting an apartment with me, starting in early/mid August. I am an incoming student at CUNY Graduate Center, pursuing a doctoral degree in Music Theory! My budget is $1000-$1200 for a room.
I am very responsible with bills and I prefer to keep everything tidy. I sleep early and am very respectful of my roommate’s boundaries. Sometimes, I might invite some friends over to cook sometimes, however I would not do that without asking you first. Finally, I have lived in NYC for 8 years, so I am familiar with the etiquette of being a respectful roommate!
If you are interested in renting an apartment together, please email me at hkc5709@gmail.com
Hello everyone. The room I rent will be available this month. The apartment is located in Central Harlem (327 St Nicholas Ave with 125th St) and has a subway entrance next to the building (A-B-C-D lines), on the same sidewalk. The building was a public school until the 70s and was renovated in the 90s to be residential, so the entire structure is beautiful and very unique (there’s a huge window in the room!). The apartment has two other bedrooms, one occupied by a guy working in the tech field, and the other belongs to the apartment owner, who only visits a few times a year. The living situation is great, and so is the apartment. The rent is 1,450 + 45 for household expenses, and that’s it. I will vacate the room on June 16th, so anyone interested can start negotiating now and move in by July. My email: barreto.renato2@gmail.com
Hi everyone! My name’s Nicole and I’m going to be a psychology PhD candidate on the Cognitive & Comparative track, I’m so excited to be here. I will be based at Queen’s College for my lab, and taking classes at the Graduate Center. I am 22 years old and cis-gender female identifying.
I’m looking for roommates and a place to live, I’m open to living somewhere in Flushing, Queens, or even lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. My budget is on the lower side (1,000$ max per month is preferred), and looking to move mid-July, but can be flexible. Let me know if anyone is interested in searching for housing with me or being roommates! I have no pets, allergies, am clean, non-smoking, LGBTQ+ friendly, have lived very well with roommates of all genders for the past four years, and can be as friendly or as independent as you’d like. 🙂
My number is 413-626-6355. Hit me up if you want to look with me, have any availabilities, or even just want to be friends!
Hi, all–I am currently looking for one roommate to fill one bedroom in my three bedroom apartment. Rent is $3,300, split three ways at $110. There are three utility bills for electric, gas, and wifi. The electric bill is usually between $100-140 depending on the time of year; Wi-Fi is $75 ($25 each), and gas tends to be between $50-100 depending on the time of the year and usage. The living room is furnished, and the kitchen has plenty of cooking utensils.
The apartment is located in Bushwick, and has a nearby J stop that can get you to the GC in roughly 25-35 minutes depending on delays or if the train is express. In terms of safety, the surrounding neighbor is fairly safe.
A little about myself: I am fourth year doctoral candidate in Philosophy, and I teach at Philosophy at Hunter and Baruch college. Some of my hobbies include watching anime; playing Dragonball Fighterz and other fighting games, and RPGs; fine dining; and traveling. I am introverted, and usually keep to myself unless the spirit moves me to socialize. Also, I like to keep the common places clean, so a roommate who is ok with cleaning too is highly preferred. My other roommate, also a graduate student at the GC (Chemistry 2nd year), is also introverted, but very friendly and sociable. He likes to play guitar, and talk about chemistry!
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at cbeckford@gradcenter.cuny.edu to discuss further. Happy to meet via Zoom and/or schedule a time to visit the apartment. The lease is up by the end of the July, so move-dates are flexible.
Best,
CB
Hello! I’m Shayan and I’ll start my fourth year of PhD in Computer Science at Graduate Center the upcoming fall. I want to rent an apartment less than 30 minutes away from the GC, so that will be all upper east side, and probably along the L-train in brooklyn(Williamsburg, Bushwick). A little about me: I’m 28 and I’m into sports, movies, music, reading, and partying sometimes(outside). I spend most of my time in my room and I totally respect the common area and keep it clean. I’m easy going and friendly and enjoy having conversations about everything. Most important thing for me is to respect the shared area and always keep it clean.

Hello everyone. I’m a second-year Economics PhD student. Here’s a bit about me and what I’m looking for:
Tidy and Organized: I’m a big fan of keeping our shared spaces clean and clutter-free. I love cooking at home and always ensure that I clean up afterward.
Respectful Boundaries: Mutual respect is key for me. I value open and respectful communication to ensure a peaceful living environment.
Prefer a Pet-Free Home: While I adore animals, I prefer to live in a pet-free space.
Balanced Lifestyle: I am mostly at school during weekdays, but I do have days where I prefer the comfort of home. I’m usually in my room, focused on my studies or relaxing during such times.
Friendly, Yet Independent: I am an introvert who appreciates meaningful conversations. While I appreciate my personal space, I also enjoy occasional social interactions and good chats.
I’m looking to share a space with female roommates with a budget of $1,000. That said, I’m flexible and willing to go up to $1,200 for the perfect living situation. I’m aiming to move within a month or by April 1 at the latest.
I’d love to hear from you if you value a clean, respectful, and peaceful living environment. Feel free to reach out to me at mafrouzikhosroshahi@gradcenter.cuny.edu
