This post should be used to match roommates. Go ahead and list requests for roommates in the comments section. Please do be mindful, however, that this is an open forum and you should not post information that is too personal (i.e. addresses or telephone numbers) and be sure to meet each other the first time in a public place.
Hello! My name is Julia and I am an incoming student at the Graduate Center! I’m getting an MA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in mass violence, genocide, and crimes against humanity. I am looking for 2 other women to search for apartments with. I’m open to all locations as long as my commute to midtown isn’t too long (I work right next to the Grad Center too), and am hoping my share of the rent won’t be above $1200. I am from Long Island but have lived in the city for 3 years, so I am fairly familiar with apartment hunting here. I am terrified of roaches, rats, and mice, so I am very clean and keen on taking preventative measures! I love reading, watching movies, trying new restaurants and thrifting. If you are interested in searching with me, you can email me at jjacobellis@gradcenter.cuny.edu! Have a great semester!

Hello,
I’m Pierina, I’m 33 years old, and I will start a Ph.D. in Latin American Cultures this Fall. I already live here in NY, but I’m desperately looking for a new place to live. I have two small birds (cockatiels), and two of my roommates hate them because of the noise one of them makes sometimes. One roommate threatened me with killing my bird. He told me “If I get a hold on him, he is done.” And he is sending threatening messages all the time. If someone knows about anything, please, let me know. My email is pb.pierina@gmail.com . I promise my birds are very cute and sweet. Thank you.

Hi! I’m a 29yo former math teacher from Georgia starting a PhD in the CUNY philosophy program this fall. I’m hoping to move into an apartment on August 1st with 1-3 housemates. My budget is $1300/month, and I am searching in Manhattan near Central Park and in Brooklyn near Prospect Park, because I like to get outdoors. I have found a few places I like and am looking for roommates. Please contact me at dwest2@gradcenter.cuny.edu if you think we might be a good fit!
More about me: I’m an introvert who enjoys socializing with small groups of friends. In my spare time I like to go on excursions to explore, hike, and nature-watch. I also enjoy reading, playing games of all kinds (board games, card games, video games), and eating vegan food. If you want to hang out or do any of these things together, I am open to it! However, my biggest priority is housemates who are kind and willing to talk out differences. I will try to be that way myself.

Hello everyone,
My name is Mohammadreza, and I am thrilled to be joining CUNY GC as a new incoming international economics PhD student. As I prepare for this exciting new chapter, I am actively searching for a room that falls within a monthly budget range of $900-$1100. I have my travel plans set, and I will be arriving in New York on August 19th. To make the most of my time and minimize expenses, I would prefer to move in immediately upon my arrival.
Currently, I am finishing up my M.A. in Economics at SFU in the beautiful city of Vancouver, BC. I am very flexible when it comes to potential roommates and have no specific preferences regarding gender, age, or dietary choices. I am open to the possibility of a long-term lease, as stability is important to me. What matters most to me is finding a place that provides convenient access to CUNY GC, ideally within a 30-40 minute bus ride or less. Additionally, having roommates who are also students would be an added bonus. I am a 30-year-old non-smoker who values a peaceful and friendly living environment. I embrace diversity and am open-minded when it comes to different cultures and beliefs.
As my arrival date approaches, finding suitable accommodation is my top priority. It will provide me with the peace of mind and stability I need for a smooth transition into this exciting phase of my academic journey. If you or anyone you know is currently searching for a roommate or has a room available, I kindly request that you reach out to me here or through my email at mohamadrezacha@gmail.com. Any assistance or leads would be greatly appreciated.
Hello everyone!
My name is Lera and I am an incoming PhD student in Psychology (Congnitive and Comparative Psychology track) with background in Linguistics. I’m coming to New York on August 11 and I am looking for roommates to rent a place with. I am not too picky about the location, but the preferable option would be something with public transportation allowing to reach GC and, occasionally, College of Staten Island (possibly Brooklyn would make a good option?). I would prefer to spend no more than $1300 a month. No gender preferences.
About me: I am 25 years old (F), coming from Saint Petersburg, Russia. I enjoy playing guitar, exploring new places and spending time with people. I have 5 years of experience of living with roommates and I am respectful of other people. I am vegetarian and I love pets (but I do not have anything against any type of diet).
I am looking forward to making new friends! Please reach me at vvmodina@gmail.com to find an apartment together!
Hi all!

There’s a full size private bedroom and shared bathroom, living room and kitchen.
About me: I’m 25 years old, a New York City native and studied math and data analysis at Wesleyan University. I’m interested in music, baseball and trivia. I’m easy going and a bit of a night owl, and a non-smoker. Please contact me at daniel.crippen12@myhunter.cuny.edu if you are interested. Thanks!
Hi everyone,
My name is Renato and I am looking for NYC housing. I’m originally from São Paulo, Brazil. I’m looking to move into a place around the third week of August (8/14).
I am 39 years old and will be studying Theatre and Performance at the Graduate Center starting this Fall. My budget is below $1500 a month, and I’m looking for a place preferably around the Upper East Side and Upper West Side. Ideally with a washer/dryer in the unit.
A little bit about me: My academic background is in Languages and Literature and I work as a knowledge curator. I enjoy going out to museums and galleries and other cultural offerings in the city a lot and love to talk about pop culture in general. I enjoy cooking and spending time with friends. I would say that I am ambivert and quite organized and mindful of other people’s feelings and needs, especially in the context of shared spaces. I am quite sociable and like to go out, and I like the idea of the house being a space of calm and care among its residents. Queer. Non-smoker. Love pets.
I have no preference with respect to gender or age.

Hi everyone,
My name is Andrew and I am looking for NYC housing. I am 24 years old and will be starting my PhD at CUNY in the fall, studying ecology. I would be looking for something less than $1300 a month, but I do not have major preferences when it comes to location. My commutes would be split between the GC, CCNY, and the Museum of Natural History. It would be great to jump in on an already existing lease that folks have, but I also am open to linking up and looking for new housing. I am from New Jersey, so I can come up to the city to look at potential spots.
A little bit about me: I just finished my Masters at the University of Colorado and am very much looking forward to moving back east. I enjoy playing guitar/piano, watching sports, running, and bird watching. I cook most nights but am very tidy when it comes to shared living space. I am pretty gregarious and enjoy going out, but am quiet around house when I am home.
Hello all, here is a housing/roommate advertisement from me:
– Looking for a lease takeover or 1-2 female roommates to apartment hunt with
– Budget: below $1500
– Brief introduction about myself: 29F, PhD student in Linguistics, from Hong Kong. Tidy and clean, do not prefer parties at home. I enjoy decorating and organizing the space to make it comfy. Friendly and easygoing.
– I think Harlem will be a good choice, but I’m open to other options, as long as the place is convenient and close to the train station, with easy access to the Graduate Center (around half an hour). Ideally with some cycling and jogging areas nearby.
– Ideally with washer/dryer in unit & more than one bathroom
– Arriving the US on Aug 3
Please drop me a message at mki@gradcenter.cuny.edu, thank you!
Howdy folks,
My name is Jaylyn (my friends call me J.C.), and I’m an incoming Ph.D. student in Physics.
You may notice that I make excessive use of parentheses for brief asides, and I apologize in advance.
Currently, I’m looking for a no-fee apartment in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens within a ~45 min or less commute of the Graduate Center (I have neighborhoods in mind, and we can discuss further). I’m posting here because I’m also looking for 1-2 roommate(s) to hunt for such an apartment with me. I have no preference with respect to gender or age — all I’m looking for in a roommate is someone who can be respectful of other people, their space, and their belongings. Of course, I’m happy to meet in person and get to know each other a bit before deciding to live under the same roof.
I’m looking to move into a place around the first week of August (7/30-8/6). My personal target budget is $1,600 or less, but I understand that living space in NYC is at a premium, so I am willing to shift closer to $2,000 if it makes sense (proximity to public transport, neighborhood safety, size of the room/apt, etc.).
A few things about me:
—
I’m 21 years old, originally from Long Island, NY, and I’m a non-smoker (I also don’t drink). Never been much of a partier, but I am not averse to hosting a few guests for dinner or a low-key gathering. My hobbies include making visual art (painting / digital media), writing music (I’ve been in a few punk bands — but I wouldn’t play amplified or without headphones in the apartment if that’s preferred), and cooking. I’d say I’m fairly tidy and I’m very combative against pests (here, you kinda have to be). My main area of focus in physics is condensed matter theory and I am very passionate about my research.
—
As we all know, living alone in the city is not very affordable, and even as a group, we may still need to secure guarantors (personal or third-party). Hopefully, we can have an open discussion about our finances as grad students early on to get a good idea of what we can afford in the NYC housing market (generally, as a rule, our collective income must be at least 40x the rent).
Alternatively, if you need someone to partner with to get a place at the Graduate Center Housing building in East Harlem, I’d also be interested.
Feel free to contact me at jumana@gradcenter.cuny.edu

Hi, My name is Alanna Shea and I am looking for either a room, studio, 1 bedroom, or roommate with a budget of $1,500. I am mainly looking for a roommate because I have done a lot of work into looking for a two bedroom under $3,000. I would also like to move in July 1st but no later than the end of August. I had luck in Brooklyn in fun funky areas like Bushwick. I hope to live with someone who is upbeat, compassionate, deep, and funny. But as long as we can get along and be respectful, I am sure it will work out. In my free time I like to make art, watch films, read, cook, try new things, and thrift. I am getting my Master’s in Philosophy so if you like anything philosophical or have a deep passion for your studies, I think that’s also a sign we might get along. I hope that our new home or wherever I move into will be a place to rest and learn as I will be studying and working part-time. Please reach out and CONGRATS on getting in to your program!
Hey everyone!
I hope you’re all having a fantastic day.
My name is Rahul. I’m reaching out to the wonderful community here because I’m on the hunt for a cozy 2 bedroom apartment to call home starting in August 2023.
A little about me: I’m a clean, considerate, and non-smoking individual. I prioritize maintaining a peaceful and harmonious living environment. I’m about to embark on an exciting journey as I start my PhD in Computer Science at The Graduate Center, CUNY in fall, so my studies will be a big focus for me. However, I also love to explore and hang out around the city, discovering new cafes, parks, and cultural events.
If anyone is intersted in joining forces for apartment hunting together / looking for roommates (I have no gender preference), please please feel free to drop me a message rohlan@gradcenter.cuny.edu. Any recommendation, sugggestion or tips are welcome 🙂

Hi there!
I’m an incoming CUNY Hunter Master’s student in Art History and I’m also a musician. Looking for a room to rent by the end of the summer. I tend to be quiet, cleanly and respectful :). To borrow the words of an earlier post, please reach out if you want to join me on the apartment hunt or if you are in need of a roommate – looking to spend no more than $1350 a month.
Hello,
My name is Daniel Hope. I’m a 4th year CUNYBA student, completing my AOC in Mathematical Computer Science and Mathematical Sociology. I’m looking to move from my current place this August. I’m open to looking for an apartment with a new roommate or moving into an apartment with an open room.
I’m generally pretty chill and know my way around living peacefully with others. I’m wrapping up my undergrad so I’m not really going to have time to throw ragers nor get into a lot of chaos – thus, I won’t be making a lot of noise. Pay my bills on time and will fulfill any household responsibilities that I’m tasked with.
To reach me, my email is daniel.bosah@stu.bcc.cuny.edu.
Hello,
My name is Shayan and I’m a third year PhD Student in Computer Science at the graduate center. My two roommates are going to move out at the end of August(because the management increased the rent), so I’m looking for two people to move in. The apt is a 3bd/1 bathroom in upper east side (88th and 3rd). The rent is gonna be $3650 and I have the bigger room so the its around $1150 – $1170 for the small rooms. The rooms are small(you can fit a twin bed & a small desk), but are great for people who don’t spend a lot of time in their room. The neighborhood is amazing, 5 minute walk to 4,5,6 and Q. 7 minute walk to central park. Lots of bars and restaurants around. 10 minute commute to Hunter College, 20 minute commute to the Graduate Center. Also, the kitchen is fully equipped.
Write to me at mmshokrii1996@gmail.com if you’re interested.
Hey everyone! My name is Kioshi and I’m looking for roommates (1 or 2) to find a place to rent with. I’m 22 years old and moving from New Mexico as an incoming PhD student in Mathematics. I’m not picky about the location but I’d like somewhere that’s pet-friendly and close to public transit. Besides that, I’m a relatively clean non-smoker whose hobbies include baking, writing, and photography, and I’m looking forward to learning more about the city (especially the local music scene because it looks awesome)!
If anyone wants to chat, send me an email at kmorosin@gradcenter.cuny.edu 🙂
Hi, all–currently looking for two roommates for a three bedroom, one bath apartment. Rent is $3150, split three ways at $1050. There are three utility bills for electric, gas, and wifi. The electric bill is usually between $100-140 depending on the time of year; and gas and wifi together are $60. The living room is furnished, and the kitchen has plenty of cooking utensils.
The apartment is located in Bushwick, and has a nearby J stop that can get you to the GC in roughly 25-35 minutes depending on delays or if the train is express. In terms of safety, the surrounding neighbor is fairly safe.
A little about myself: I am third year doctoral candidate in Philosophy, and I teach at Philosophy at Hunter and Baruch college. Some of my hobbies include watching anime; playing Dragonball Fighterz and other fighting games, and RPGs; fine dining; and traveling. I am introverted, and usually keep to myself unless the spirit moves me to socialize. Also, I prefer having a clean apartment for many reasons, but especially because it helps me maintain a balanced mind.
If you have any questions, feel free to email here to discuss further.
Best,
CB

My name is Ian, and I’m an incoming PhD student in History. I’m moving to the city from Chicago in August, and I’d like to find a couple of roommates (ideally 3) interested in living in Brooklyn. I’d also take a room in an existing apartment.
I have a ragdoll cat (large, very pretty) who is good with other animals and with people, but that does mean I will only be able to live in pet-friendly apartments, and with people not allergic to cats. Otherwise, I collect board games, build models, and like baking pizza.
Hi, my name is Kat and I’m an incoming Ph. D. student in philosophy. I’ll be moving to the city this summer to start my degree in the fall semester, and I’m looking for one or more roommates. I’m open to either taking a room in an existing apartment or searching for a place together! I would prefer female roommates but I’m open to a mixed group as well if the vibes are good.
I will be working and studying a lot but also like to go out when I can, as well as cook and bake, watch movies, etc. on a chill night in. I’m open to a lot of different neighborhoods as long as public transport is easily accessible. I have lived in the Midwest my whole life so I’m not super familiar with NYC but I’m looking forward to getting to know the city!
I am posting this for my roommate, as she is having trouble logging in!

Other perks include: a new grocery store that opened up across the street, and there’s a planet fitness, chipotle and multiple coffee shops around the corner.
